WIRELESS ACCESS
The VRF is also a wireless environment and is now on the campus "moobilenet". If you have configured your laptop to connect to the campus wireless network, you will have wireless access in the VRF. To get on the campus moobilenet, go to Wireless Networking: How To. Please note that any computer use in the VRF, including wireless, is governed by the UC Davis Computer Use Policy (http://iet.ucdavis.edu/policies/) and the UC Davis Principles of Community (http://principles.ucdavis.edu/).

COMPUTER LAB & EQUIPMENT GUIDELINES
The Visual Resources Facility is a multi-use facility. Because
we support the instructional programs of both the Art and Art
History, we ask that faculty and students abide by these rules
or guidelines so that we can provide support for everyone:
General Guidelines
| |
·
Please
do not bring in food or drinks into the lab.
·
Please
turn off your cell phone.
·
Please
do not play games on the facility's computers.
·
Computer
use is restricted to UC Davis students, faculty and staff.
·
Art
& Art History related research work has priority over
all other computer use, including image production. Every
station has a two hour limit which will be enforced if demand
is high. If you need to use a specific station and software,
please reserve time in advance on the Sign-up Sheet posted
in the lab. Large rendering (video) projects can not be
allowed in the VRF. Please use the Digital Lab for such
projects.
· Scheduled
classes and workshops have priority over all other lab use.
Pre-arranged
workshops and classes will be advertised on the VRF door
and all scheduled VRF closings will be noted on the calender
outside the VRF.
·
Do
not store or save your data to the lab computers. Save all
data to your own media and what the computer supports (all
G5s and new Dell computers support CD, zip and external
USB and firewire drives). All computers will be regularly
cleaned and any data left on the computers will be lost!
The VRF is not responsible for any lost data. We can not
supply media.
·
Use
of the Visual Resource Facility resources are governed by
the UC Davis Computer Use Policy (http://iet.ucdavis.edu/policies/)
and the UC Davis Principles of Community (http://principles.ucdavis.edu/).
These regulations stipulate: downloading copyrighted music,
movies, images, large files or any materials the University
has deemed inappropriate.

Equipment Reservations
| |
·
Circulating
equipment is intended to support instruction and presentations.
Students may not borrow equipment for non-class related purposes.
·
We
ask that you make your reservations in person rather than
via phone or email. If you need to change or cancel your reservations
(this also applies to lab resources) please notify us in advance.
We will allow a 30 minute grace period - if you do not pick
up your reserved items within 30 minutes of the time you reserved
it, we will make it available to other users. Similarly, there
is a 30 minute grace period for returns. If there is high
demand, we may reduce this grace period but you will be notified
in advance of these changes. Please return items to the lab
- staff will not deliver or retrieve equipment unless you
have made arrangements with the staff.
·
Student
borrowing cables, equipment, or reserved books / videos need
to bring their Student IDs or Driver's Licenses - we will
hold their ID as long as they are using VRF equipments / resources.
|
Room Reservations
| |
·
The
VRF will provide space and equipment for workshops or group
sessions. When the space is reserved for a session or workshop,
the VRF will be closed to other lab users. Access to the Slide
Collection will remain open to department faculty and teaching
assistants.
·
Space
and equipment can be reserved if the use is deemed appropriate.
Faculty must require computer resources that are not available
in other department rooms or can not be supported by VRF loan
equipment. Please note, when we hold workshops or sessions
in the VRF, we are limiting access to other students and faculty.
The VRF is not a classroom or viewing space. If room 210 or
other classrooms are available for slide or video presentations,
we ask that you attempt to schedule these rooms first.
·
Faculty
should schedule a time 1 week in advance so we can provide
sufficient notice to other patrons that the VRF will be closed.
·
The
time allotted to workshops or sessions should not be longer
than 1 hour unless you have received permission from the manager
and Art and Art History program chairs for an extension.
·
The
VRF must be used for instruction related purposes. This space
can not be used to hold meetings or viewings unless you have
a compelling reason and have the permission of program chairs
and manager. |
